We’re thrilled to share the highlights from the SoCal Clubhouses Teen Summit 2024, a special event that we had the privilege of bringing to Moreno Valley youth!
Event Overview: On Saturday, August 24, 2024, The Clubhouse Network hosted an inspiring Teen Summit at Disneyland, marking the culmination of a comprehensive Summer Program. This year's theme was “Youth Advocacy and Activism - Responding to Bias in Technology by Building the World We Deserve.” Over the summer, participants from six Clubhouse & Teen Tech Center sites across Southern California engaged in weekly sessions, culminating in a creative project that was showcased during their trip to Disneyland.
SBX/ListoAmerica Clubhouse Participants: Our own Clubhouse youth members—Kevin, Bri, Quwaan, Geo, and Angel—joined this transformative experience. Supported by our dedicated staff and mentors, Eddy, Gustavo, Maria, and Julian, they immersed themselves in discussions about technology's role in society and its potential for creating change.
Youth Activism and Advocacy: The core of the Teen Summit’s Summer Program was a focus on understanding how technology and algorithms can reflect societal biases. Participants developed a Mixed Reality project using Bezi XR, MeshyAI, Meta Quest Pro, Canva, and original music created by Quwaan. Their project, which visually represented the word “BIAS,” was a powerful exploration of how technology can both perpetuate and challenge biases.
Imagination Campus Experience: A highlight of the summit was the “Technology of Disney Parks” workshop at Disneyland’s Imagination Campus. Teens had the unique opportunity to explore the technology behind Disneyland’s attractions and design their own light, sound, fountain, and firework shows. This hands-on workshop was both educational and exhilarating, especially for those experiencing Disneyland for the first time.
Impact and Future Plans: The summit successfully inspired participants to think critically about technology and its societal impacts. The experience provided valuable insights that we plan to integrate into future Clubhouse programs. We look forward to continuing our exploration of technology, creativity, and social justice, inspired by the innovative approaches of Walt Disney Imagineering.
Conclusion: The SoCal Teen Summit 2024 was a resounding success, offering our Moreno Valley youth a blend of educational and inspirational experiences that will have a lasting impact. We are proud to have facilitated this incredible opportunity and grateful for the support that made it possible.
